    Description

    Services for the UnderServed (S:US) is a non-profit organization that believes that every New Yorker deserves to know home in NYC. S:US works with communities and individuals in every corner of the city and on Long Island to make sure every New Yorker has the chance to find home. S:US serves tens of thousands of New Yorkers each year facing poverty, homelessness, and life with disabilities. We create pathways to rich and productive lives through high-quality housing, employment, skills-building, treatment, recovery, food security, and eviction prevention services.

    Services for the UnderServed is seeking a detail‑oriented and proactive volunteer to support the Marketing Communications department in organizing, cataloging, and archiving our digital media libraries. This volunteer position offers a hands-on opportunity to strengthen the infrastructure behind S:US’ storytelling by ensuring our photo, video, and design assets are well-organized, searchable, and preserved for long-term use.

    This position will play a key role in improving internal workflows, enhancing asset accessibility, and supporting the team’s ability to produce timely, mission-driven communications. This volunteer opportunity offers a behind-the-scenes look at how to manage the creative assets that supports visual storytelling. It’s a great fit for someone who enjoys structure, systems, and supporting creative work from the foundation up.

    Responsibilities:

    The volunteer will work closely with the Marketing Communications team to:

    • Audit existing photo, video, and graphic asset libraries across multiple platforms.
    • Organize and consolidate media files into a unified, easy-to-navigate structure.
    • Apply consistent naming conventions, metadata, and tagging to improve searchability.
    • Identify duplicate, outdated, or low-quality assets and flag them for review.
    • Assist in creating or updating documentation for media management processes.
    • Support the team in preparing curated asset collections for upcoming campaigns or events.

    Preferred Skills

    • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a communications, marketing, digital media, library science, or related program.
    • OR has professional experience in communications, marketing, digital media, library science, or related experience
    • Strong organizational skills and comfort working with large volumes of digital files.
    • Familiarity with digital asset management, cloud storage platforms, or metadata tagging (helpful but not required).
    • Interest in marketing operations, content strategy, or media production workflows.
    • Ability to work independently, ask thoughtful questions, and maintain attention to detail.
