    Description

Be a Mentor (Secondary School students)

The Initiative for Public Art in Africa (aka Public Art Africa) is a youth program that creates an ecosystem of access to art, design, information, mentors, and career-based opportunities for young Nigerians. Details about our programs can be found on the website at www.ur4africa.com/public-art-africa.

We work with professionals from various industries to share their own experiences and career choices with the students in our program.

We have programs that run during the week and on Saturdays. The Ministry of Education has approved our program in several districts across Lagos.

We run weekly workshops towards the end of the month at different schools. Students meet with mentors for a few hours after school to develop projects, and on Saturdays, we run a college prep program and a community engagement program. These programs are set up to provide students access to materials and opportunities to hear from professionals about their career choices.

You will meet with the students, share work experiences and your journey, answer questions, and work on small projects together.

The goal is to build community with the students and create a safe space for curiosity by encouraging questions and being open to sharing. These students are art inclined, but we do have some students interested in science, math, tech, etc.

There will be a short orientation for all volunteers so that they feel equipped to participate in this type of engagement.
