    Description

    Historic Preservation Architect

    Description

Mending Our Mistakes, Inc. is seeking a volunteer or pro bono architect with experience in historic preservation, adaptive reuse, transitional housing, shelter design, or multifamily redevelopment.

We are working to transform a long-vacant historic property into a family stabilization campus for court-involved parents. The vision includes supervised visitation space, short-term stabilization housing, private resident rooms, workforce development space, offices, and eventually long-term housing.

We are especially interested in someone who can help us think through:

    • phased redevelopment options
    • what buildings should be saved versus demolished
    • emergency shelter versus apartment-style layouts
    • reuse of older masonry buildings
    • cost-effective approaches for preserving historic character
    • opportunities for future additions or new construction

    Responsibilities

    • Review available property photos, measurements, and site information
    • Provide rough floor plan concepts
    • Help identify the most practical uses for each building
    • Help identify major code, accessibility, and design concerns
    • Advise on phased redevelopment options
    • Assist in identifying historic preservation opportunities and potential funding strategies

    Desired Qualifications

    • Experience with historic buildings, adaptive reuse, or multifamily projects
    • Familiarity with code, accessibility, and life safety considerations
    • Ability to think creatively about low-cost, phased redevelopment
    • Interest in housing, preservation, or family-focused nonprofit work

    Location

    On-site

    Mountainaire Hotel Historic District

1100 Park Ave, Hot Springs, AR 71901, USA

    Please fill out this form

    Instructions:

Please include a resume, portfolio, LinkedIn profile, website, or examples of relevant work.

If you have worked on adaptive reuse, preservation, housing, shelter, or phased redevelopment projects, please highlight those specifically.

Applicants do not need to be located in Arkansas, but must be comfortable collaborating remotely.

We are especially interested in people who can think creatively about how to make a large project possible in smaller, more affordable phases.

Experience with low-cost housing, reuse of vacant buildings, historic tax credits, or shelter design is especially valuable.
