Description
Welcoming the Stranger is a nonprofit organization that provides free English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to immigrants and newcomers to the US. We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated volunteer Lead ESL Teacher to join our team at our Bensalem, PA location.
About the Role
As a Lead Teacher, you will teach a small group of students with the support of assistant teachers.
Commitment
- Volunteer for one or two classes per week
- Each class is 1.5 - 2 hours
- Starting date: The week of September 8, 2026
Qualifications
We are looking for a volunteer who is:
- Patient, encouraging and nonjudgmental
- Interested in working with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
- Collaborative and flexible
- Previous teaching experience is helpful, but not required.
Our program's goals are to build a supportive, safe and welcoming learning community that provides English language learners with opportunities to improve their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills so they can achieve their personal goals and gain the confidence they need to succeed at work and in everyday life.
All of our teachers are volunteers and, thus, they are critical to making this program a success!
