    About Rainforest Foundation US

For over 30 years, Rainforest Foundation US (RFUS) has worked to address climate change and safeguard biodiversity by promoting the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities and supporting their efforts to protect and defend their rainforests. Science shows that forests managed by indigenous peoples are healthier, suffer less deforestation, capture more carbon, and contain more biodiversity than forests managed by private or public entities--including nationally protected areas. What’s more, scientists tell us that protecting forests is as important as reducing greenhouse emissions if we hope to stem the tide of ecological collapse.

RFUS works in partnership with indigenous and local communities and their representative organizations to protect tropical rainforests by supporting their efforts to secure rights to their lands, strengthen monitoring and land security, influence laws and policies that protect their resources, and build strong and sustainable community leadership. By investing directly in indigenous and local communities, RFUS connects the people rooted in the land with the tools, training, and resources to be effective advocates and protectors of the forests they call home. RFUS currently operates four country programs in Brazil, Guyana, Panama, and Peru, and hosts a number of regional partnerships in Central America, the Amazon Basin, and across the tropical belt. About the Volunteer Opportunity

RFUS is seeking a detail-oriented volunteer to help organize and maintain RFUS's growing multimedia archive. Working with the Digital Communications Manager, the volunteer will help organize, describe, and archive the organization's collection of photos and videos in our digital asset management system. These visual assets are an important record of RFUS's work with Indigenous peoples and local communities and are regularly used in communications, fundraising, reports, and other public-facing materials.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, enjoys working with digital files and metadata, and has a keen eye for detail. They are comfortable following established workflows, working independently, and managing repetitive tasks with accuracy. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in digital asset management, archives, photography, or nonprofit communications who is looking to contribute to a meaningful project over a period of approximately 4–6 weeks (5 hours per week).

Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Work with the Digital Communications Manager to organize and archive photo and video files in RFUS's digital asset management system.
    • Add and update metadata, including captions, keywords, dates, locations, photographer/videographer credits, and project information.
    • Ensure files are consistently named and organized according to established standards.
    • Help ensure multimedia assets are easily searchable and accessible for communications, fundraising, and organizational reporting.

    Requirements

    • Have free time
    • Have a good attitude
    • Have a passion to help others
    • Integrity and dedication to the organization’s purpose
    • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
    • Ability to work independently and follow established processes
    • Experience with digital asset management systems, metadata, Airtable, or similar tools is a plus but not required.
