    About Us

Hope Haven Pet Rescue is a small, fully foster-based, volunteer-run cat rescue serving communities across Massachusetts. All animals in our care live in private foster homes, allowing us to prioritize individualized care, stability, and humane outcomes. We are committed to building sustainable rescue systems that balance compassion with responsible growth.

    Position Overview

The Volunteer Intake Coordinator is a leadership-level role responsible for overseeing and coordinating intake requests, including owner surrenders, rescue partner transfers, and stray or feral cat assistance inquiries. This role helps ensure that Hope Haven uses its limited resources responsibly while remaining compassionate and compliant with Massachusetts regulations.

The Intake Coordinator works closely with the Director and leadership team, especially the Foster and Wellness Coordinators. Intake decisions are collaborative, with final authority remaining with the Director.

    • Review and respond to intake and surrender requests (generally within 48 hours)
    • Evaluate requests based on capacity, foster availability, and rescue criteria
    • Maintain intake tracking systems and waiting lists
    • Coordinate with the Foster Coordinator regarding placement readiness
    • Enter and maintain accurate records in the rescue’s management system
    • Upload surrender and transfer documentation
    • Coordinate or assist with animal transfers when needed
    • Forward TNR or trapping requests to appropriate partners
    • Communicate trends, risks, or unusual cases to the Director
    • Approach all interactions with empathy, professionalism, and respect

    Qualifications

    • Experience in rescue, sheltering, veterinary support, or fostering preferred
    • Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills
    • Clear, compassionate communication style
    • Organized and comfortable working remotely
    • Able to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive situations
    • Comfortable using email and shared data systems
    • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for occasional transport
