Who We Are
LifeSmart Education is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that enhances the availability of nontraditional educational classes and resources for underserved youth and communities. We help those who need unwavering, positive life management skills. Youth aren't born knowing the life skills that we wish they did; they must be taught and molded into productive members of society. At LifeSmart Education, we teach youth how to be socially and emotionally successful and enable them to achieve their highest potential as law-abiding global citizens.
Summary
LifeSmart Education is looking for two (2) Board of Directors to provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. Areas of expertise in either law, accounting, or social media are preferred but not required.
The board meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month for 1.5 hours. In the future, the board will only meet once every other month. This role requires 3 years commitment.
Board Members Responsibilities
- Determining how the organization carries out its mission through long and short planning and review
- Approving the annual budget and providing fiscal oversight
- Orienting and developing new board members
- Evaluating the performance of the executive director
- Evaluating the overall performance of the organization in achieving its mission
- Establishing policies and procedures to effectively manage the organization
- Follow the organization’s bylaws, policies, and board resolutions
- Understand and promote the organization’s mission
- Be familiar with the organization’s programs and operations
- Participate in resource development and fundraising
- Make an annual contribution that is commensurate with their capacity
- Help educate the community on LSE’s mission
- Review board meeting materials before each meeting
- Identifying the potential conflicts of interest
- Maintain confidentiality on all LifeSmart Education’s internal matters
Board Giving Requirement
All Board Members are required to make an annual personal financial contribution of $500 in Board Dues at the start of the fiscal year, or a prorated amount based on their start date.
These dues are considered a personal contribution and must remain separate from fundraising or sponsorship efforts conducted on behalf of the organization.
This policy reflects LifeSmart Education’s commitment to ensuring that all Board Members demonstrate a shared level of investment in the organization’s mission, sustainability, and long-term impact.
