Everything the Idealist Community Accomplished on Idealist Day 8/8
This is what impact looks like 🙌
From Suriname to Chicago, Nigeria to Argentina, and more, the Idealist community showed up in a big way for Idealist Days 8/8 this year. Here's a snapshot of what you shared with us:
Alex M. from Richmond, Virginia gathered 10 people to clean up the Reedy Creek Wetlands—they saw a fox and deer! 🧹
Arthemas E. from Sudan gathered 60 people in their community for a social event to share + learn about building resilient, peaceful, and healthy communities in southern Sudan 🤍
Siggi H. and Julie C. from Cambridge, NY helped set up a community picnic, the main fundraiser for a local co-op—their growing group of 14 Idealists led the effort with 4 co-op committee members to support more projects in their community 🧺
"Helping a community partner with their event is a low-time commitment as the community partner is doing all the organizing and you're just helping!"
A group called Ecuador Volunteer in Ecuador hosted a clean-up day on the Galapagos Islands 𓆉
Elsie O. from Ghana met with five other people online to discuss progress on the "Grow Cocoa Initiative" project 🌱
"Every participant is willing to ensure that Idealist Westside Ghana thrives and that all projects are carried out successfully. Also, Ofori, one of our key farmers has been able to supply healthy cocoa seedlings to 8 farmers in the Western North.
Sheriff B. from Abuja, Nigeria joined 50 other folks to learn about the dangers of drug abuse in their local community 💡
A group of Idealists in Portland, OR sent letters to isolated seniors and other folks in need of a lift ✉️
“Two great new partner organizations - Letters Against Isolation and The World Needs More Love Letters - added to our resource roster!”
Deldry S. from Suriname donated clothing items to people in need 👚
A local organization in Guatemala organized a day of honor for people with disabilities and their families 🕊️
Rose M. from Chicago organized a Zumba class that collected donations for a local food-focused nonprofit—$100 was shared with (Greater Chicago Food Depository)! 💰

If you’re wondering how to launch an Idealist Days group in your local community, here are a few steps to get started:
- Sign up to get involved in Idealist Days, and stay in touch by registering for the free Idealists in Action newsletter, sent monthly.
- Start small by gathering friends, co-workers, or family members to talk about how you can make a positive impact in your local community once a month on Idealist Days.
- Browse local volunteer opportunities to join an existing positive action.
- As you grow, post your event on Idealist’s Global Calendar via Luma to invite others in your area to join you for projects.
- Submit your photos and reflections to actions@idealist.org.
I oversee the content and resources we share at Idealist to help organizations, prospective grad students, and job seekers make an impact in their personal and professional lives. In my spare time, I love to read, cook, and explore NYC's parks.
