James River Hospice Lynchburg

James River Hospice began in the Richmond, VA area about 20 years ago. Because of the utmost care and companionship provided by James River Hospice's staff and volunteers, we are now able to meet the needs of our patients and their families in Lynchburg, VA and surrounding areas. To that end, James River Hospice is looking for Volunteers to visit our patients or work in our office.

Volunteers do not perform any personal care (feeding, bathing, etc.) Volunteers who visit patients can play board or card games with the patient they are assigned to, take the patient outside for fresh air (weather permitting), read to their patient or watch classic tv shows, all while offering gentle support and comfort to the patient.

To volunteer with James River Hospice, Lynchburg, you must be at least 18 years old. You will receive training, have a two-step TB test and drug screen, all at no cost to you. You will need to visit with your patient a minimum of three times a month and each visit will be a minimum of one hour. Volunteers write visit notes each time they perform their volunteer duties. Your visit notes should be turned into your Volunteer Coordinator within 48 hours of your last visit or contact.
