Present News is a student-run online news magazine created to raise awareness for hate crimes through unbiased storytelling. Our goal is to uncover the facts to promote awareness and prevent future victims. People's voices need to be heard, and Present News strives to be that medium through which people can express themselves. Through this magazine, we also want to connect passionate young individuals like you and give them a platform to grow as journalists and as young leaders.
What we have done:
- Partnered with CAPA-NOVA, the northern Virginia branch of a Chinese-American nonprofit organization that aims to empower the Chinese-American community by promoting connection, education, equal rights, and opportunities, to deliver a virtual presentation on hate crimes, educating over 20 attendees
- Raised more than $200 through a bake sale at the Falls Church Farmers Market, with proceeds donated to Stop AAPI Hate
- Published 9 podcasts on Spotify and our website (https://www.presentsnews.com/), covering hate crimes in depth
- Consistently raised awareness through weekly posts on our Instagram (@presentnews__) highlighting recent hate crimes
- Wrote articles about CAPA-NOVA and their work to give Asian Americans a platform (https://www.presentsnews.com/post/carving-path-towards-advocacy)
