Northfield & Farmington Adult Basic Education

  • About Us

    Mission

The mission of Adult Basic Education (ABE) in Minnesota is to provide adults with the literacy and academic skills they need to advance their lives, become self-sufficient, and fully participate in their communities.

    Volunteer Opportunity

Adult Basic Education is seeking caring, dedicated volunteer tutors to support adult English language learners.

We offer free English classes for adults ages 17 and older in a safe, welcoming environment. Our students come from diverse backgrounds and bring with them a strong commitment to learning and growth.

As a volunteer tutor, you’ll work alongside experienced teachers—either one-on-one or in small groups—to help students practice and strengthen their English skills. No teaching experience is necessary; what matters most is a genuine openness, care for others, and appreciation for diverse cultures.
