Doctors Care’s foundation is rooted in community. In 1988, physicians of the Arapahoe Medical Society, led by Dr. Gary VanderArk, noticed a need to find affordable medical care for over 20,000 residents of Arapahoe, Douglas, and Elbert counties. Dr. VanderArk’s philosophy was, and is, if we all do a little - we can accomplish a lot. While initially operating as a large network of physicians and practices, Doctors Care has evolved over time to meet the community's need. In 1993, Doctors Care for Kids opened its doors. Originally a pediatric clinic, a need once again emerged when staff noticed parents and caregivers forgoing healthcare due to social determinants, such as cost and accessibility. Today, Doctors Care sees clients up to age 50 in the clinic and 64 in other programs. The mission and model of Doctors Care continues to reflect Dr. VanderArk’s philosophy by becoming a trusted place to access quality health care and support services necessary to live a healthy life.
Today, Doctors Care meets its mission through an integrated and robust service model. This includes the primary care clinic and programs designed to assist the community with health insurance assistance, behavioral health, health-related social needs, and reproductive health. Since its founding, Doctors Care has served more than 55,000 Coloradans and provided more than $80 million in medical services.
