Young Homeowners League

  • Mission

We empower youth, starting from high school, with financial, construction, and homeownership skills by engaging them in building homes that are affordable, from tiny to starter homes, with an option to purchase at cost, optionally with a mortgage.

    About Us

Our vision is to ramp up to 40,000 starter homes annually in the City of Houston and within commuting distance to Houston.

Our baseline starter home is 1000 to 1400 sqft size, priced $150k to $200k.

90% high school students could have homeownership plans, assuming 10% do not want to consider homeownership.

75% high school students could be working before and after graduation, assuming 25% expecting their college costs covered by family or full scholarships.

35% youth could help building starter homes, while 10% going on to full-time construction careers.

Our approach is unique in the following ways:

    1. Homeownership planning starting from high school for up to 10 years so that majority of today's youth should be able to become homeowners by age 25.
    2. Homeownership planning starts from work to increase income and save to increase saving. Student-led enterprise is a way to create employment when jobs unavailable.
    3. Low cost small size lots will be developed and student-led enterprises will have land to build starter homes on.
    4. For income below $60k, our solution is co-buying, baseline starting $50k per bedroom in a single family home.
