Lumoset Foundation Inc
Mission
Lumoset Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that helps everyday people use the internet safely and confidently. We serve older adults, families, and anyone newer to being online, with a focus on underserved communities and people facing economic hardship.
We do two things. We help people recognize and avoid scams before they lose money they cannot afford to lose. And we build the practical digital skills that modern life now assumes everyone already has, from email and smartphones to online banking, telehealth portals, video calls with family, AI tools, and finding legitimate work online.
Everything we make is free. Our courses and guides are open to anyone, with no account, no paywall, and no catch. We teach in plain language, at whatever pace someone needs, and we never make a person feel behind for asking a basic question.
About Us
More About Us
Lumoset Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that helps everyday people use the internet safely and confidently.
We started because two things kept happening to the same people. They were losing money to scams that were designed to be hard to spot. And they were being locked out of ordinary life, banking, doctor's appointments, job applications, staying in touch with family, because those things quietly moved online and nobody ever taught them how.
So we teach both, and we teach them free.
What We Do
Stay Safe Online. We help people recognize and avoid scams before the money is gone: gift card and wire transfer schemes, fake job offers, investment fraud, AI-cloned voices, and what to actually do afterward if someone has already been caught.
Build Digital Confidence. We teach the practical skills modern life assumes everyone already has: email and passwords, smartphones, online banking, telehealth and patient portals, video calls with family, AI tools, and how to find legitimate work online without getting burned.
We now have 25 free courses live, built as beginner, intermediate, and advanced paths so someone can start where they are and keep going. Everything is open with no account, no login, and no paywall. We write in plain language, we go at whatever pace a person needs, and we never make anyone feel behind for asking a basic question.
Who We Serve
Older adults, who are targeted more aggressively than anyone and often have the least support when it happens.
Families and caregivers, who are frequently the ones helping a parent or grandparent stay safe.
People newer to being online, including those in underserved communities and anyone facing economic hardship, for whom one scam can undo a year of saving.
What We Believe
Education is the real defense. Most scams work on people who simply have not seen that particular trick before.
Free has to mean free. No paywalls, no accounts, no upsells, no catch. Ever.
Plain language is not dumbing down. It is the difference between a person acting on what they read and giving up halfway.
Dignity matters as much as information. Nobody learns from someone who makes them feel foolish.
Why Volunteer With Us
We are a small, mostly remote team, and volunteers do work that genuinely ships. A Google Ad Grant puts our free courses in front of people actively searching for help right now, so what you help build gets used.
Right now we are looking for:
Course testers and reviewers. Take our free courses and tell us honestly how they feel to use. No tech background needed. If you are still getting comfortable online yourself, your feedback is the most valuable of all.
Subject-matter reviewers. Retired bankers, IT professionals, fraud investigators, and educators who can check that what we teach is accurate and current. General education review only.
Local outreach volunteers in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Help us reach libraries, senior centers, and community groups where our audience already gathers.
Roles are flexible, remote unless noted, and scoped so you always know what finished looks like. We log volunteer hours, we credit your work with your name on it, and we are glad to write a reference letter for anyone who completes a project. Good for building experience, strengthening a resume, or meeting volunteer hour requirements.
If you care about this and have time to give, we would love to hear from you.
