Friends of Concord Creeks

  • Mission

Friends of Concord Creeks (FCC) is an all-volunteer group dedicated to conserving and restoring creeks and natural areas throughout our city.

    About Us

Friends of Concord Creeks was formed in the spring of 2022 under the auspices of the Walnut Creek Watershed Council. (This refers to the creek, not the city.) In addition to creek cleanups and plantings, we have three major projects starting in early 2024:

    • Water Quality Monitoring: FCC is implementing monthly monitoring at seven sites along Galindo Creek and other waterways, measuring indicators of creek health such as temperature, levels of nitrates and phosphates, etc.
    • Pollinator Gardens: FCC will be planting pollinator-friendly gardens. The first site, along Holbrook Channel near Pixieland Amusement Park, has already been identified and approved by the city.
    • Arundo Removal:Arundo donax, an extremely invasive bamboo-like plant, is a common site along Galindo and other Concord creeks. FCC plans to begin an arundo removal program in April.
