Vegan Scouts

Vegan Scouts provides an inclusive scouting program for Portland-area vegan kids, emphasizing civic action on animal welfare, environment, health, and social justice, and skills to prosper and be a positive force in our changing world.

KEY PRINCIPLES

The following ideas are fundamental to the organization.

• Until such time as the organization chooses, and has sufficient legal protection, to operate otherwise, member activities will be designated as “Parent (guardian)/child,” meaning that participating minors will do so only under the care of authorized adults who are responsible for their behavior and welfare.
• We aim to be an inclusive organization, especially by lowering financial, social, and geographic barriers to participation.
• We emphasize respect for children. In essence this means supporting children by giving them space to encounter life and manage their experiences to the degree they can, escalating our support to the degree needed. See separate guidance document about this.
• We emphasize time in nature.
• We emphasize opportunities for members to connect with other vegan children.
• We aim to make connections with animal sanctuaries.
• Food at our activities and events should be strictly vegan.
