The Solar Drift Project
Mission
To support and scale the deployment of floating solar energy systems (across Africa) by expanding clean energy access, strengthening food systems, creating economic opportunities, and promoting community-led environmental stewardship through strategic partnerships.
About Us
The Solar Drift Project is a South African–based international non-profit with a vision to harness the potential of floating solar power across Africa to empower communities, strengthen climate resilience, and expand access to sustainable energy.
Our focus is on developing innovative, scalable floating photovoltaic systems designed for African water bodies—supporting energy security while protecting land, water, and ecosystems. Our work is grounded in community benefit, environmental stewardship, and climate justice.
Currently in our start-up and foundation-building phase, we are focused on:
- Designing and or piloting floating solar systems suitable for diverse African contexts
- Establishing partnerships across research, agriculture, climate change adaptation, engineering, policy, and community development
- Building an international, remote team committed to equitable climate solutions
As we grow, The Solar Drift Project aims to bridge science, innovation, and community-led impact, ensuring renewable energy solutions are not only technically sound, but socially just and locally meaningful.
