  • Mission

Haitian Women for Haitian Refugees (HWHR) engages in collective efforts and movement work to combat exclusion and institutional racism that impacts the lives of Haitian refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants for full self-determination through political education, community organizing, policy advocacy, and case management.

    About Us

Haitian Women for Haitian Refugees (HWHR) is a Black, women and nonbinary-led grassroots organization based in Brooklyn, New York, led by and for Haitian refugees. Since 1992, we have organized alongside directly impacted community members, including many who now make up our staff and leadership, to fight for justice, dignity, and the right to live free from state violence. Our work confronts anti-Black immigration policies, defends critical protections like Temporary Protected Status (TPS), resists deportations, and addresses the root causes of displacement such as U.S. imperialism and political violence in Haiti. We center working-class Haitian refugees, undocumented people, and survivors of gender-based violence. Through political education, legal advocacy, healing justice, cultural work, language justice, and direct action, we build collective power so our communities can stay, thrive, and lead the fight for transformative change.

Haitian Women for Haitian Refugees (HWHR) is a fiscally sponsored project of the Inter-religious Foundation for Community Organization. (https://ifconews.org/)
