Description
Center for the Heart is expanding our support network, and we are looking for a dedicated Volunteer Coordinator to lead our volunteer programming. This role is central to our mission of providing compassionate, heart-centered support for those navigating the end-of-life journey and grief.
As Volunteer Coordinator, you will play a meaningful role in helping build a compassionate community of support for individuals and families navigating grief, caregiving, and end-of-life experiences. Beyond coordinating volunteers, you will help foster connection, dignity, and presence during some of life’s most vulnerable moments while contributing to a growing movement focused on grief awareness, compassionate care, and community healing.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordination: Working with leadership to identify needed volunteers and match accordingly
- Training and Onboarding: Work with executive team to ensure that volunteers are appropriately trained and onboarded
- Onboarding & Support: Conduct screenings for new volunteers and provide ongoing mentorship and scheduling support for the companion team.
- Outreach: Represent Center for the Heart in local networks to promote the availability of volunteer opportunities
- Retention and Celebration: Work with leadership to facilitate appreciation activities and retention efforts
- Maintain documentation on volunteer recruiting and placement
- Participate in relevant meetings and trainings
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- At least 18 years of age
- Scheduling: Ability to schedule recruited volunteers for trainings and assignments
- Data Entry Capabilities: Entry of volunteer demographic data, volunteer time and assignment tracking to support accurate reporting of volunteer metrics and KPIs.
- Facilitation Skills: Comfortable leading trainings virtually or in person for volunteers
- Empathy & Discretion: General understanding of handling sensitive information and delicate situations with the utmost respect and confidentiality
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills for recruiting and maintaining relationships with community partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in End-of-Life Care: At least 1 year of end-of-life services, hospice care, or grief support is highly preferred.
